Daily and Weekly Programs

Free with Museum admission. This schedule is subject to change: check with Admissions Desk to confirm: 541-382-4754, ext. 271.

Daily Programs

10:00 am   Naturalist Walk (Sunday through Friday): Join one of the Museum's volunteer naturalists to tour the grounds and learn about High Desert plants and geology.

11:00 am/1:00 pm   Desert Dwellers Show: Meet live animals close up and learn all about them. Hawks, owls, badgers, a porcupine, skunk, and reptiles are among those who may stop or fly by for a visit. Sponsored by the Village at Sunriver.

11:00 am to 4:00 pm  Living History: In the Sin in the Sagebrush exhibit: meet pioneers, gamblers and "working women" and hear their stories.  At the Homestead, experience life at a re-created ranch and join in chores and games.

12:00 pm/3 pm   Birds of Prey Talk:  Meet a magnificent raptor close-up and learn about them from the wildlife staff.

2:00 pm     Otter Talk: See the amazing world of the river otter. Touch furs and skulls and learn about the Museum's river otter, Thomas.

2:45 pm     Spirit of the West Exhibit Tours:  Journey with a guide from a Native American rock shelter through a gold mine and a 1880's frontier town. 

Dig Crawl Climb: Be a paleontologist and uncover animal fossils! Climb on timber like a pioneer lumberjack! Be a spider and swing from a web, and more!  Outdoor exhibit, open during regular Museum hours.

Weekly Programs - school year only. Begins again in September.

Snake Encounter

10:00 am to 2:00 pm: The Otter Den  A fun, creative play-and learning space. Children ages 2-5 and their parents. Additional charge - see front desk for details.

 

12:00 pm Wild Wednesdays: Visitors ages 7 to 12 and their parents will discover obscure parts of the Museum on weekly scavenger hunts. Use a puzzle map to find all the hidden treasure chests and get a Museum prize. Themes of the hunt change each month.


10:30 am Tuesdays: Totally Touchable Tales: Storytelling that opens preschoolers' eyes, ears, and hearts to the natural and cultural wonders of the High Desert, with activities such as puppet play and quick craft projects for ages two to five. Sponsored by
Central Oregon Pediatric Associates.
